But did you know that good feng shui can also include very subtle environmental clues, too? It’s true.

For instance, have you ever walked into a home or office and felt uncomfortable at once? Or, perhaps your children became unruly or your baby started to cry. These are all signs that the feng shui of the space is not right.

When do you want to observe signs? Important times might include…

…when you are searching for a new home to buy

…when you are making an important decision

…when an important event is about to take place (birth of a child, moving, marriage, funeral, promotion, graduation, etc.)

…when you are beginning a new endeavor (marriage, starting a business, etc.)

Where do you look for signs?

These can be out your window, hanging on the walls, on the radio, on the television…almost anywhere. So, stay attuned to what you see and encounter in an environment for an intangible feng shui “stamp of approval.”

What are some examples of good signs?

1. Happy children.  Children who are laughing and giggling are excellent signs. If children play around a house you are interested in buying this is an excellent sign. Cooing, happy babies are especially good signs – as is pregnancy!

2. Rain.  When you are considering a financial move or starting a business and rain begins to fall, this is a very excellent sign, as water equals money in feng shui. A light, lovely rain is always a blessing and a good signal of prosperity. A rainbow is the resplendent symbol of rain, which is the unity of yin and yang.

3. Sunshine.  Sunshine breaking through clouds or trees is an excellent sign of good fortune. Sun streaming through windows (as long as it’s not blinding) is another wonderful sign.

4. Plants.  When you see a plant blooming or trees and flowers doing very well, this is an excellent sign. If you are starting a business and see pictures of forests or vases of flowers, this is a very beneficial sign for your business. Look for plants that stand out, are blooming, or are especially beautiful – such as a large, magnificent oak tree.

5. Birds.  A flock of birds, a picture of a bird or birds, a lone hawk or falcon flying are all examples of excellent feng shui signs. Cranes, in particular, are thought to be good signs of both longevity and great fortune. White birds signal good health or bad situations turning better. Birds flying over a house or business bring good news of prosperity!

6. Wind.  When you arrive at a house you are interested in buying, does the rain stop and the clouds part and the wind begin to blow? Or, does a light breeze greet you as you step out of the door? These are all excellent signs. Light, comforting breezes are excellent feng shui and augurs good luck. Strong wind, however, blows away good luck.

7. Animals.  Are there any animals gathering close? Do you see a group of beautiful horses? Or, is there a toad hopping by? Happy, beautiful animals are harbingers of good news and good outcomes. Pay attention to the animal world at the start of any undertaking or when times are stressful. Even butterflies are considered excellent and wonderful predictors of positive outcomes. Cows are symbols of wishes coming true!

8. Fruits or flowers.  Do you see fruits or flowers? Are they fresh and beautiful looking? These are excellent signs of success and bounty, and can be real or in paintings. Pink flowers are considered good symbols of love, white flowers as symbols of good health and better times, yellow flowers are believed to be the best symbols of wealth, red as symbols of happiness. Do you have a flower bush that rarely blooms? Take note of what’s happening in your life if it begins to bloom!

9. Heavenly visions.  Do you see certain religious symbols or elements? This can be taken as a sign of a stamp of approval of a higher order. Pay attention to symbols that you see that suggest spirituality. This can also include dreams. Pay attention to dreams, jotting them down each morning just as you wake, for clues about what’s happening in your life.

Look around and see what shows up when you are confronted with a situation, such as making an important decision, such as buying a business or looking for a new house, when you need that cosmic “thumbs up.” It might be right in front of you or flying overhead. Looking outside of ourselves for confirmation can be very powerful and affirming.

Of course, the growth I’m talking about is the growth in your life, your career, your relationships, and your wealth. We’re not so different than the beautiful plants you buy at the local nursery that look wonderful but then need to be divided or repotted into a larger pot — everything grows.

Your life is a living, growing thing.

When you’re overwhelmed by stuff, like a plant, you outgrow your pot and that’s when you start to see your relationships suffer, your business opportunities dry up, your health and vitality sapped, and finances become tighter and more restrictive.

Worse than all the stuff and visual blight that clutter represents is the way it robs you and your home of vital, happy, and lively energy. Decluttering helps to remove blockages from your life that stop the flow of energy to you and everything you enjoy.

How does clutter affect you and what benefit does decluttering offer?

Life is energy

All life requires growth, evolution and movement. When we lack these elements in our life, the energy that makes up our lives becomes stunted. Imagine not having enough energy to power a light bulb: it grows dim and burns in a weakened state. When we have overstuffed homes – especially with outdated, unused and unloved items, our lives become weakened too.

But how do you know when it’s clutter and when it’s disorganization?

Clutter is when you have eight spatulas or a closet full of clothes you haven’t worn in years. Disorganization is when you can’t find what you’re looking for. Simply organizing your home with shelving, baskets, boxes, and other organizers will often clean up the disarray. In fact, by using organizing items you can often make more room than if you didn’t use them.

Look at your challenges to find the kind of organizers you need. Is the big mess in the kitchen or the bathroom? Maybe the living room is out of control. You might not be able to find an important bill that needs to be paid because you don’t have a place to put the bills when they come in. No matter what your need is, there are containers of every possible size and description that can help you organize your house where you need it.

Unlike a tornado, clutter doesn’t just happen. It gets that way over time.

Sometimes clutter is so insidious that we don’t even notice it until we’re deluged by it. Hopefully, you’ve learned some things about clutter, like what it is, what to do about it, and how it’s different than disorganization. But, just like any good habit, such as exercise, decluttering isn’t something you do and then it’s done: it’s something you start and then keep doing.

Too often people are bitten by the declutter bug and make one big push to declutter. That’s wonderful and having your clutter cleared in one fell swoop feels incredible and unburdens you. Most of the time, though, clutter is related to a vitamin deficiency. Either someone is frozen in fear and doesn’t do anything about the clutter, usually because they’re just overwhelmed, or they do it once or then forget about it for the next 25 years. The key to both is Vitamin C – “consistent C.”

Schedule it

Having a regular routine for decluttering is the single best way to keep it from getting out of hand. Pick a daily time that’s convenient such as every day at four o’clock. Then, spend fifteen or so minutes working at removing clutter (tossing mail, magazines, clearing out the refrigerator). Make it long enough you can accomplish something but not so long that you’ll give up.

Declutter with other activities

Instead of just putting freshly-washed towels away toss out your old tired towels first. Or, while your child is getting ready for bed, take a moment to go through some drawers and remove outgrown or stained clothing. Decluttering as you do other things makes decluttering part of daily living — and that creates a routine.

Make it a habit to be aware

Don’t unload groceries into the refrigerator that’s messy or cluttered with jelly jars with only a teaspoon of jam in them. Instead, quickly go through the fridge and toss old items out and wipe down shelves before restocking, and do the same in the pantry – this is the quality of being present with clutter and your environment. Likewise, if you take a phone message and the pen you’re using doesn’t work, make it a habit to throw it away and not put it back in the holder (and I know you do this!).

Be present

Becoming present means that you are aware where you are. That sounds obvious, but if you’ll start becoming more aware and present wherever you are, you’ll notice that you stop forgetting things and misplacing items and you’ll notice how your home and office stay cleaner and neater more easily.

You’ll also notice that you get more accomplished, you’ll scratch things off your mental and physical to-do lists, you’ll become less patient with people who drain you and you’ll get three very valuable qualities back into your life again. They are initiative, motivation and enthusiasm: the zest of living.

Yes, old, broken, crowded, and too-much stuff can do that to you — rob you of zest for living. Free yourself and become aware of what you have and what you really use or don’t use. Getting rid of useless items will unburden your home, mind and spirit and will open up your life again!

Your goals for decluttering this week:

Become more aware and present wherever you are. If you’re in the bathroom and you see a two-year old bottle of prescription medicine you don’t need, why not throw it out?

Straighten and organize before adding anything. Take time to clean the refrigerator and/or pantry before adding groceries. It might take a little longer the first time, but if you do it for a few minutes before adding groceries, each time will get shorter and your fridge or pantry will be neat and tidy.

Worst first. Instead of handling a small clutter area, tackle the worst area first. Get the tough stuff out of the way and you’ll feel instantly energized. Enlist help if you need it. Ask a friend to help you and keep you strong. Who knows? Once you start really pitching, you might find that you are so ENERGIZED that you don’t WANT to stop!

Clear off counters and floors. To get energy moving in your home and life, clear up all items off the floor and off the tops of dressers and counters.

Having an uncluttered, organized home will repay you in time and money — and will return your peace of mind — and in just a few short weeks. Besides being a serious re-charge to your life and vitality, decluttering is good feng shui.

Everything you are surrounded by exerts an influence on your life.

If you’re surrounded by clutter and disorganization, it’s a serious energetic drain on your mind, your emotions and your physical body. Too much stuff quickly turns a home “yin” and that makes energy turn negative. Once that happens, the circumstances of life start changing, too. You could say that clutter becomes the sticks and mortar that dam your life and stop the opportunities that flow to you. It’s time to clean up that “dam” mess!

Let’s get started with the basics.

What is clutter?

Clutter is anything that you don’t regularly use, things that you don’t like or enjoy or that are broken, or items kept out of guilt and obligation. Clutter includes items like old clothing, unused toys, mismatched dishes, or stacks of magazines. One of the worst sources of clutter is paper. Newspapers, mail, magazines, old greeting cards, and various paper items all clutter up our coffee tables, desks, and refrigerator.

What clutter isn’t

Clutter isn’t anything you truly love or use regularly. Clutter also isn’t a valuable collectible. Some things shouldn’t go in a landfill or in a garage sale. Your grandmother’s Fostoria crystal isn’t junk and shouldn’t be treated that way.

Ebay, local antiques or consignment stores are resources to help sell your collectible items. One woman made $15,000 off her clutter. Every week, she sat at her computer with five to 10 items she wanted to sell and in six months, she had made an extra $15,000 by selling her clutter on Ebay. Too much trouble to sell? Give special items away as gifts to someone who’ll appreciate them.

Clutter sources

There are a number of reasons for our over-accumulation. One is that we’ve moved from a disposable society to everything’s-a-collectible society and if everything is valuable, then you can’t throw anything away then, can you? We’ve also moved from a buy-it-as-you-need-it outlook to a buy-it-in-bulk mindset – and if we buy in bulk, we have to live in bulk.

Lastly, recreational shopping creates an overload of unused, unwanted household items. Hitting the mall every weekend just packs your house and empties your wallet.

Staying present. The difficulty with clutter is both past and future.

Too often people are tied to items because of the past (it was a wedding gift, it was Uncle Frank’s) and the future (what if I need a shoe buttoner again?). Yet clutter causes you problems in the present because you can’t find what you’re looking for or you have things you don’t really need or want. Other problems from the past include items we’ve inherited.

Many people feel like they have to keep everything passed down from their loved ones. It’s a tremendous burden of guilt. Remember that things are not people and it’s okay to let things go. To feel like you have to hold on to the possessions of your loved ones who are no longer around is to have to build your own life and hang on to their lives, too. It makes for a crowded house. Keep just a few items that you especially love or that you’ll use on a regular basis. My favorite item from my grandmother? Her cast iron skillet that stays on my stove to this day and gets almost daily use.

Go ahead, be wasteful

Have you ever heard the Depression era stories about being so poor that coffee grounds were dried in the sun and re-used? Well, it’s not the Depression anymore. It’s okay to throw things away. You have my permission and encouragement to get rid of stuff. There will be enough and you can always get more if you need it.

People hang on to so many things because they don’t want to be wasteful; like holding on to a shirt with a stain that won’t come out. The stain won’t come out the longer it hangs there, so why reach for it and then put it back on the rack? Throw it away once and for all.

Your role: The first step to getting control over clutter is recognizing your role in creating it.

Do you overshop? Do you keep things out of guilt (it’s Aunt Mary’s!)? Do you have to buy in bulk? Are you afraid to throw things away? Taking a hard look at how and why your house has gotten cluttered helps you get it under control and from becoming cluttered in the future. So recycle when you can, and throw away, donate, or sell the rest — and at every opportunity.

The physical symptoms of clutter

Clutter stops the flow of energy. When energy stops flowing, there is a negative impact to our bodies, spirits, and energetic life flow in the form of money, opportunities, love, and enjoyment. Clutter manifests as excess weight, constipation, inability to think, feeling stuck in life, low vitality, and poor personal growth and movement.

Your Decluttering Starting Point:

Analyze your role in creating clutter. This week, try to make a change to your habits like going shopping during lunch or letting junk mail stack up instead of throwing it out. Try to change one habit each week.

Set up an Ebay account. It’s incredibly easy to do and fast. Then gather up five items you’d like to sell, photograph them and upload them. Wait for the “Your item sold” email and then ship it as quickly as possible. There are a few essentials for selling successfully: great descriptions, good photos, reasonable price, and fast shipping. Do those and you’ll be an Ebay pro in no time.

Tackle the kitchen desk or junk drawer. Buy an organizer and mercilessly pare down everything but what you frequently use. Aim to reduce the amount of stuff by at least 50%.

However, in traditional Chinese feng shui, all home and office locations are determined by their actual directions. Using actual directions rather than just the opening to a room helps tap into the earth’s own energy or “chi.”

 A compass helps you tune in to the earth’s energy

By using true compass directions, you enhance your reception of the energy from that direction, such as career help from the north. And how does that help the homeowner? Well, if a home or business, like a satellite dish, is oriented correctly, the “television picture” of our life comes in clear and crisp, making for faster and better feng shui results.

Each direction offers benefits such as health, wealth, and romance

Feng shui is tied to the eight directions of N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW. The North, for instance, benefits your career and business opportunities. The NE represents personal and educational growth.

In the East, it is health and family relationships. The Southeast governs wealth and abundance. The south stands for fame, recognition, and social standing. Relationships, marriage, and romance are governed by the Southwest, and the West is the direction of creativity and children. Lastly, the Northwest brings helpful people, mentors, and superiors in a position to assist you.

To make the easiest determinations for these locations in your space, you should first divide your house or office into 9 equal squares, or sectors. This is called the “Magic Lo Shu Square” and it unlocks the feng shui in any space.

The next step is to determine the direction that the front door faces. If it faces North, for instance, then the sector the door is in is North. Next, label each additional sector according to its direction, such as NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW. The last, or ninth sector, is the center sector.

Because most houses and buildings are irregularly shaped, that is, they are not perfect boxes, there may be some sectors that are missing.This often gives the clue to what areas of life are being impacted. For example, in an L-shaped house, there are probably one or more sectors missing. Perhaps, it is the North. If this is the case, then chances are the residents are lacking opportunities and career advancement.

Reading the Compass Correctly

Reading the compass properly is critical for determining the correct directions of a space. Bear in mind that metal from doors, lamps, etc., can affect the reading of the compass. However, what you are measuring is not the true directions of N, E, S, & W. What is being measured are the directions as they appear for this particular location. This is an important to know.

To accurately take directions, always use a compass and refrain from assessing directions based on where the sun rises and sets. To take directions, be sure to stand in the center of front door with a compass held at waist level.

If there is a bubble level on the compass, make sure it is centered so that the needle will float properly. Now, you can assess the correct directions. Be aware that if you have metal, such as jewelry, belt, etc., it will distort the reading of your compass.

Lastly, be sure to never ever sleep, sit, dine, work etc., facing a cardinal direction (N, E, S, W) exactly. So, for instance, you would not want to sit at 0 degrees north. This is too much energy. Make sure you are always at least a few degrees off the cardinal readings.

Using a compass you will be able to accurately determine the feng shui of any space. You’ll learn where your wealth, fame, or relationship sectors are and you will be able to capitalize on that by energizing each effectively, you will create a harmonious, supportive — and successful environment.

The peach flower is also believed to be able to entrance men. Its petals were thought to possess the ability to cast a romantic spell on them and as such is seen as a romantic symbol by the Chinese.

But peaches are also symbols of long life.

The lore of the peach is that a Goddess invited eight people to her garden where a peach tree had borne fruit after 3,000 years. After eating the peaches, each of the Gods became immortal. Thus, peaches became synonymous with long life and longevity in Chinese culture.

The peach is also a common symbol of spring time and represents marriage. Peaches in the bedroom are thought to inspire marriage proposals and be a wonderful feng shui enhancer for singles.

But there is a danger with peach….

Peach is the color of infidelity. The use of peach colors is not wise for a number of reasons. Peach colors can attract men with less than honorable intentions. In a marriage, it can cause straying from the marriage and sexual scandal. A television show that portrayed a horrific rape and slaying of a young woman showed that her house was painted a peach color and the man responsible for her death stalked her and stabbed her to death.

Peach is popular, but not worth the risk. A client of mine from a prominent political family suffered the embarrassment and scandal from her husband’s affairs in the newspapers and TV, but wouldn’t budge from her favorite color. Ask yourself if this color is worth the risk if peach is your favorite color.

When you’re single and looking to attract a suitable mate, painting your bedroom peach can help you attract many who are interested in you. But it’s a mixed blessing because you want to choose carefully as peach can attract suitors only looking for a physical relationship or who are users.

Once you have someone you are interested in, be sure to paint over the color or you could invite trouble such as cheating. Afterwards, you can display a peach or a peach plant made of jadeite and found at Chinese emporiums if you want to stimulate more romantic interest and marriage opportunity.

If you’re married, display the peach symbol, but be wary of using the color. Displaying the peach symbol is not worrisome the way the peach color is because of the potential for creating unwanted marital dalliances or sexual scandal. The peach is a good symbol for romantic interest and longevity for your marriage.

Be selective when using this color in a child’s room or elderly person. Even here, the use of the color should be tempered for fear of drawing unwanted physical interest to the child. Peach figures are perfectly fine to display in the living room or bedroom of older persons to stimulate health and longevity, but avoid the use of the peach color.

On your next trip to the home center searching for paint colors, look in favor of pink, beige or brown and avoid peach colors.

It makes sense because of how much time we spend at our jobs. More than a third of our daily lives are spent at work. It’s also understandable because to have a successful career enables us to make better decisions for ourselves and our families and gives us more freedom in our lives.

With an ongoing recession, career strength and job security have become much more important because a job can be lost at any time and for any reason.
Fortunately, feng shui provides techniques that you can use to help you earn more recognition, invite more opportunity, and attract the eye and support of superiors who can help you in your career — and go to bat for you when problems strike.

When you energize important areas in your life, you open up the environment for a range of possibilities and opportunities for advancement. For instance, by energizing your career sector, your job may suddenly become better, or something new and better will come to you that you hadn’t expected at all, such as a business opportunity or a promotion at work.
Making changes and enhancements for your career brings you exposure to new opportunities. And when you make more changes in your life, you get more choices. Choices give you the chance to feel more control over your career and life. Activating your feng shui for career opens up the energetic flow so that your career energy is smoothly free-flowing versus stuck or, worse, stagnant and going backwards.

There are two critical areas to enhance if you want to improve your career: your house and your office. It’s important that you look at both areas and make changes to both areas in order to make your feng shui compound. Below are ideas you can use for some career feng shui first aid for both your home and office. STEP ONE: YOUR HOME

6 Key Steps to Activate Your Career at Home

1. Look north. Make sure the north sector of your home is in good order. If your north sector is missing or if there is a toilet here, activate the north sector of your living room and office with metal objects, water or elements that represent water. This activates the career chi and brings you opportunities.

2. In the north corners of your bedroom, office, dining room or living room: Activate the career corners of the important rooms in your house. You can do this by decorating with blue or black, a picture of water (not overly large, however), and metal (preferably gold-colored) objects. Avoid adding water in the bedroom as it can cause you financial loss, but you can add water in your office, living room, or dining room.

3. Your home’s entrance: Make the entrance to your home as attractive as possible to invite new opportunities. Make it neat and easy to come into by removing obstacles, blockages, dying plants, worn out welcome mats, etc.  Keep it bright, clean and inviting. Add a black welcome mat to invite water energy into your home. Be sure to block any views that go straight through from the front of the house to the back or you’ll be missing opportunities (and losing money). If your front door has peeling paint or a worn out door handle, spruce this up or you could suffer setbacks.

4. Look south. Display peacock feathers in the south portion of the home and keep this area well-lit. The south represents recognition. A grouping of nine candles would be excellent here as well. Consider painting the south room in your house red, orange, or a shade of red to bring attention to yourself and reinforce your good reputation and name.

5. Welcome career opportunities. Keep a light in the entrance to your home turned on. A chandelier with crystal prisms that cast the different colors around the entryway is especially good. Be sure to use the front door, too. This brings energy into your home and welcomes good career news. If your stairway faces the front door, opportunities could run out. Hang a crystal ball above the last stair to press down the energy. Alternately, place a round rug between the stair and the door.

6. Add water to the front of your home. Consider putting in a water fountain (on the left side of the door as you look out of the house) inside the house or outside. (A water feature on the right side of the house invites cheating in the marriage.) If you put in a water feature outside your home, make sure the water appears to be flowing toward the house. This is one of the best ways to bring opportunities to your door.

STEP TWO: YOUR OFFICE

8 Ways to Activate Your Career at Work

1. Sit in a power position by facing (but not in direct line with) the door. Don’t sit with your back to the door ever. If your furnishings in your office or cubicle are built in, then turn your computer so that you can see someone coming from either your left or right side.

2. Tap your personal kua directions. Face your personal best directions if at all possible, but never ignoring #1 above. Use as many of your personal best directions as possible, but make sure you observe good feng shui and annual feng shui ahead of personal feng shui. To determine which are your best directions follow this link.

3. Stop gossip. If gossip is a problem in your career, place a statue of a rooster on your desk to look at anyone coming into the office. This will help curb some of the politicking and talk in the office.

4. Get support. This is extremely important for a good career and why you should have something solid behind you. If you have a window at your back, you will suffer from lack of support. Turn so that there is a wall behind you. Also, make certain that there is not a bookshelf or open cabinets at your back. Place these where they are not in direct line with you or your desk. This also means making sure you don’t have any bookshelves facing you. Move these if you do. Also be certain you don’t have a hallway, stairs, or other entry that is exactly opposite your desk.

5. Enhance your wealth corner. Place a plant in the southeast corner of your office. Get rid of spindly, weak plants. Better to have a pretty silk plant than a real plant that is dying. Better still? Add a fountain here.

6. Be recognized. Trouble getting noticed for your hard work? Place a lamp in the south corner of your office for more recognition. Also, place red objects, lava lamps, candles, or anything shaped like a triangle. This adds fire energy and helps you get noticed and recognized for your efforts.

7. Activate your career sector. Place a tortoise in the north corner of your office to symbolize water and support. Or, place a big picture of water here. If you want to go all out, place an aquarium here with eight gold fish and one black gold fish.

8. Get help. It’s the “who you know principle” that you want to engage at work. Mentors and helpful people at work can smooth the way on the job and in your career. For that reason, it’s so important tomake sure the northwest corner is activated. Add crystals, moving metal objects (such as a fan or pendulum clock), maps, or globes.

Fortunately, with feng shui, you can use the principles of this ancient technique to help you draw more clients to you, create a harmonious business that attracts business, and builds a financial foundation for your life that gives you more control, greater freedom and feeling of personal achievement.

But how can you put feng shui to work as an entrepreneur? I’ve put together a list of eight ways that feng shui can help generate more flow – and that means more success and more sales for you.

1. Put money first.

When it comes to your business, money should always come first. Why? Well, because you’re in business. Emails can wait, filing can wait, but money can’t.

Write your bills every Monday and every day ask yourself if the activities you’re doing are money-generating. Busy doesn’t always equal financially productive – so do those things that are and delegate the busy work to someone else.

2. Water is wealth.

Make sure you are surrounded by financial energy and that energy’s element is water. Keep a clear, running and full fountain in your office to help keep you relaxed and stimulate business opportunities. North, the business opportunity sector, is also the direction associated with water. Adding metal here will also stimulate water energy – and that stimulates business and money from your business.

3. Have a vision.

What is your symbol of success? If you want to be the world’s best cookbook writer, then wrap some cookbooks in a cover with your name on it. Seeing is believing. Find a symbol that is meaningful for you and keep it where you can prominently see it while you work. Pick a symbol, any symbol and keep it in front of you.

4. Feng shui your website.

Yes, feng shui can even be applied to bytes and pixels! I often see businesses that have websites whose colors conflict, such as red and silver, green and beige, or green and yellow. These are color combinations that fatigue visitors – meaning the website is less sticky and more likely to be abandoned and with fewer repeat visitors.

That’s because these color combinations make your website work against itself – and that gets you nowhere. Select feng shui compatible color combinations. This would include blue, black, and white or yellow, purple, and red, or green, black, and blue. Not sure about your site? 5. Open communication.

Sales depend on making it as easy as possible for the customer to reach you. Get yourself a 1-800 number, a fax number, and a land-line if you’re in business. Interestingly, when I moved from a cell phone as my primary business phone and got all the other lines installed, I began receiving many more calls. Think of it this way: no talk, no sales; more talk, more sales!

6. Get more clients.

Many “solopreneurs” have a poor filing system (if any). Make sure you have a file cabinet with a specified drawer just for client files — and keep your clients in red folders; this energizes the client and keeps them in contact with you (read: repeat customer!).

When you want more clients, have three blank folders on your desk at all times, just ready for the next one. Also, get a label maker and make a label for each new customer. The more respect you give to your customer files, the more customers you’ll have.

7. Beauty pays you.

If you’re a work at home entrepreneur, chances are you may have a less-than-inspiring work area. Invest in your office and make it attractive, organized, and functional. Having a beautiful work space is motivating and encourages creativity.

When you are surrounded by beauty and inspiring views, objects, or artwork, you are more likely to think creatively, come up with new approaches to your business, and be more productive – and that makes you more money!

8. Use the Power of One.

One is the number of opportunity and money from business in feng shui. There is probably one thing that you could do to instantly make a difference in your business. What is it? For some, it would be to create that first product, for others it would mean publishing your book, and for others it might be making sales calls. But, chances are you know the one thing that’s standing in the way of your success. Get to work on just that one thing.

You know what it is.

Do it now and put it ahead of everything else.

To the Chinese, the seat of the soul is in the stomach, so the Ho Tai Buddha’s stomach is large and round to symbolize his heavenly stature and to represent fullness and abundance.

The Ho Tai Buddha reminds us that good things come to happy, joyful people and that prosperity is also a sign of joyfulness. Keeping the Ho Tai Buddha lifts the whole household or business with his happy presence.

Stop worrying and start relaxing. Displaying the relaxed and happy Ho Tai Buddha at your desk, in your business, or the entrance to your home can help dissolve money worries and help you to be in the “receiving mode” for more prosperity!

Ho Tai helps you get ahead at work.

If you are tense about making money on the job, placing a small Ho Tai Buddha on your desk will help stimulate your financial luck associated with your career. Select one with a gold ingot. Chinese gold ingots are shaped like a ship and displaying them promotes prosperity luck. This large Ho Tai Buddha is sitting on a large gold ingot and holding a Ru Yi (a symbol of authority) in his left hand, denotes his comfort with his position and job and easy prosperity.

Dispel bad luck.

Sometimes the way to get more work cranked out is to stop working.

If you think about what it takes to accomplish things and be productive, you’ll realize that it also takes a lack of activity to make the time you spend producing to actually be more productive.

Think of it this way: in feng shui, the building blocks of all energy are either yin (negative) or yang (positive). Bear in mind that the descriptions of yin as negative or yang as positive, though, are not about yang/good and yin/bad but are more like the energies of the two wires that make electrical sockets work.
For instance, one wire is positive (yang) and the other wire is negative (yin). Without a negative (yin) wire, the positive (yang) won’t work and vice versa. That’s also a good description of feng shui.

It’s a proven fact that in the summer time there are many crimes of passion, tempers flare and become shorter.

That’s why summertime is the perfect time to bring more yin to your life. Stephen Covey in his 7 Habits of Highly Successful People said that you have to stop and “sharpen the saw” if you want to be productive. In other words, staying busy can actually cause you to be less efficient. Too often, we feel that doing nothing isn’t productive, when it’s actually more productive than to keep going and digging ourselves deeper into a pit of fatigue.

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, the principle energy is yang energy – going, moving, doing, busy. Overwhelm is the state many of us constantly live in. And whenever there’s excess yang, there’s burn out.

Summer is another time – the season when the earth is at its maximum yang state – when we need more yin energy. Withdrawing to the beach with a good book is a great way to spend time in the summer – and indulge in some beneficial, and energy-producing, yin activity. Even deeper? Everything comes from nothing, so why not indulge yourself in a little nothing this summer? Read on about other ways to enjoy yin energy and help keep your energy balanced in the dog days of summer!

–Think cool and dark. Heat outside getting to you? Why not withdraw and sit in the movie theater for one (or more) showings of your favorite film? Or, create a move theater experience at home and rent several movies and spend a whole day watching films.

–Be spontaneous. Yin energy is also about lack of control. There’s a saying that “change is as good as a rest.” Take an afternoon and travel to an area where you’ve never been and just wander around. Or go to a new restaurant where you’ve never been or try a new food – Korean Barbecue anyone? Just do something completely spontaneous and different, not scripted, scheduled, planned or known to give yourself a break.

–Eat cool foods. Foods that are cooling are more yin. Try foods that are double yin – liquid and cool. A cold cucumber or strawberry soup would give you that cooling, refreshed feeling and make you feel full. Liquids are good feng shui for weight loss, too. A full glass of water or a cold soup before a meal will help fill you up so you eat less.

–Clear your desk. Feeling overwhelmed, can’t think clearly? When you’re spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere, stop what you’re doing and then clear your desk. Dust it and clean it, too. Time spent putting things away reduces visual clutter, which can make your mind more active. You’ll be amazed that simply stopping and clearing your desk can do for your mental state.

–Clear your schedule. Too many people live and die by schedules – even fun gets scheduled. When was the last time you cleared your calendar and just let the mood move you before deciding what to do – like on a weekend? Take some time off and don’t make any plans. Then, see where the day leads you.

–Clear your mind. Meditation – the act of clearing your mind – can make you think more clearly once you go back to working and living. Allowing all the “white noise” of your mind and mental chatter subside is invaluable for helping you make decisions, feel less hurried and prevent nervous exhaustion. Sitting quietly and focus on your breath. Imagine white smoke going into your nostrils as you breathe in and black smoke coming out as you inhale. Do this for five minutes and then build up.

–Read a good book. Take an afternoon off and read a fiction book. Non-fiction books often focus on learning something and this just piles on more pressure. Fiction and biography books let you get lost in the experience being written about. When you’re reading you can’t do something else and that frees up your mind, allowing you to put your mind into “neutral” – which relaxes your mind.

–Schedule a vacation. The mere act of planning a weekend off or vacation well in advance will help calm your mind and give you something to look forward to. Too often we’ll schedule our teeth to be cleaned six months in advance, but we’ll wait until the last minute to plan a vacation. Vacations – and the time off they bring — need to be scheduled in advance. Don’t wait to give yourself time off.

The images can either be pictures of what you would like, a house where you’d like to live, a car you’d like to drive, or can be a title you aspire to, such as writer, actor, president.

People respond well to images.

They inspire us in ways that words don’t. Combining a goals list with a vision board is especially powerful.

In feng shui, when compass feng shui, flying star or another type of feng shui merge together, this is called “compounding” feng shui. The feng shui, because it’s multiplied, becomes more powerful. The simple act of writing out your goals is powerful and then to compound it with a vision board makes it more powerful still.

Add feng shui to the equation and you have a vision board that can propel you to a whole new place. Are you ready for that? I mean, really, ready? Many people say they want something new, but new can be scary. Just be ready to move forward if you do this!

A vision board is a natural fit with feng shui.

Feng shui focuses on what is seen and unseen — energy that is both intangible and tangible. We understand that at any given moment whatever we are surrounded by influences us. If we are surrounded by mess, we may feel frustrated, annoyed, and not know why. If sad pictures or painful reminders are in our presence, we may feel depressed and unable to move ahead in our lives.

Select symbols that are meaningful to you

Feng shui understands that symbols are influencers and important ones at that. When you are selecting symbols for your vision board, select symbols meaningful to you. That might include the number “13.” Many people think it’s a negative number, but if it’s meaningful in a positive way to you, then include it.

Select symbols from the 8 Aspirations

These are the principles that feng shui is founded on. Each aspiration is tied to a particular direction. Career is the aspiration of the north, health is the east, travel the northwest. Next, using the directions from the bagua, place the corresponding aspiration is the appropriate corner.

Start with the north or career in the bottom middle of your vision board (or top middle like the board above). Then moving in a clockwise direction, add the aspiration symbol for northeast in the lower left corner. This could be a book if you’re a student, a deity for spirituality if that’s your interest or any symbol of general wisdom.

The next corner is the left, or east corner. Place an image of health, a lush plant, a picture of a woman jogging or any symbol that is meaningful for health for you personally. Continue going around your board in this manner. This clockwise movement adds stimulation to your vision board, going from yin (north/water) to yang (south/fame/reputation) and back to yin again.

Don’t forget to add a spark of life

It’s important that you have an energizing spark on your vision board. It should appear vibrant, active, interesting. Place your most important image in the center of your vision board. This can be the central theme of your board if you like. You can then use symbols that support that central theme and still follow the directions of the bagua.

Lastly, every item must be “energized” in order for it to imbue precious yang energy. To create this, simply add something red on your vision board. You could also loop a piece of red ribbon through your board or glue red paper to the back.

Place your vision board prominently

You won’t get very far if you can’t see where you’re going.

That’s why it’s vital that you make sure you place your board where you see it prominently and often. This will help to encourage you and keep you focused on what you want in life and where you want your goals to take you.
