Feng Shui For Vision Boards — Fire Up Your Goals

A vision board is a powerful way to visually represent the aspirations and goals you have for your life with images.

The images can either be pictures of what you would like, a house where you’d like to live, a car you’d like to drive, or can be a title you aspire to, such as writer, actor, president.

People respond well to images.

They inspire us in ways that words don’t. Combining a goals list with a vision board is especially powerful.

In feng shui, when compass feng shui, flying star or another type of feng shui merge together, this is called “compounding” feng shui. The feng shui, because it’s multiplied, becomes more powerful. The simple act of writing out your goals is powerful and then to compound it with a vision board makes it more powerful still.

Add feng shui to the equation and you have a vision board that can propel you to a whole new place. Are you ready for that? I mean, really, ready? Many people say they want something new, but new can be scary. Just be ready to move forward if you do this!

A vision board is a natural fit with feng shui.

Feng shui focuses on what is seen and unseen — energy that is both intangible and tangible. We understand that at any given moment whatever we are surrounded by influences us. If we are surrounded by mess, we may feel frustrated, annoyed, and not know why. If sad pictures or painful reminders are in our presence, we may feel depressed and unable to move ahead in our lives.

Select symbols that are meaningful to you

Feng shui understands that symbols are influencers and important ones at that. When you are selecting symbols for your vision board, select symbols meaningful to you. That might include the number “13.” Many people think it’s a negative number, but if it’s meaningful in a positive way to you, then include it.

Select symbols from the 8 Aspirations

These are the principles that feng shui is founded on. Each aspiration is tied to a particular direction. Career is the aspiration of the north, health is the east, travel the northwest. Next, using the directions from the bagua, place the corresponding aspiration is the appropriate corner.

Start with the north or career in the bottom middle of your vision board (or top middle like the board above). Then moving in a clockwise direction, add the aspiration symbol for northeast in the lower left corner. This could be a book if you’re a student, a deity for spirituality if that’s your interest or any symbol of general wisdom.

The next corner is the left, or east corner. Place an image of health, a lush plant, a picture of a woman jogging or any symbol that is meaningful for health for you personally. Continue going around your board in this manner. This clockwise movement adds stimulation to your vision board, going from yin (north/water) to yang (south/fame/reputation) and back to yin again.

Don’t forget to add a spark of life

It’s important that you have an energizing spark on your vision board. It should appear vibrant, active, interesting. Place your most important image in the center of your vision board. This can be the central theme of your board if you like. You can then use symbols that support that central theme and still follow the directions of the bagua.

Lastly, every item must be “energized” in order for it to imbue precious yang energy. To create this, simply add something red on your vision board. You could also loop a piece of red ribbon through your board or glue red paper to the back.

Place your vision board prominently

You won’t get very far if you can’t see where you’re going.

That’s why it’s vital that you make sure you place your board where you see it prominently and often. This will help to encourage you and keep you focused on what you want in life and where you want your goals to take you.

Career success is one of the key elements to happiness. How so? If you feel stuck in your career, lack the recognition you deserve, or feel unfulfilled in your job, the time you spend at it will drag on for what seems like an eternity. There’s no misery like 9 to 5 misery. That’s why it pays to make the most of your office — so it can pay for you!

Yes, paying attention to your office can pay in rich dividends for your career. You’ll notice that once you make changes, corrections, and enhancements to your office, you’ll feel differently in it and enjoy your time in your office more. What’s more, everyone who comes into your office, or cubicle, will notice what you have done and will be influenced in their thoughts about your space — and that will make them feel differently about you.

Think about it. If you hang up letters of appreciation from customers, certificates, awards, or newspaper clippings of your successes and your coworkers enter your office (or more importantly, your boss!) and they begin to see some of your accomplishments that were unbeknownst to them before, they will see you in a different light. Chances are you will see you in a different light, too — a positive, beneficial, and encouraging one!

So let’s talk about what a successful office that promotes YOUR needs.

An office that promotes the success of its occupant should….

Be alert. Poison arrows and problems areas are handled. For instance, you wouldn’t be sitting with bookshelves at your back (creates backstabbing and gossip), you wouldn’t have the edge of a desk or filing cabinet pointed at you, or have a window or door at your back.

Be clean. Dusty, dirty, and grimy offices collect more negative energy. Take time to regularly straighten and clean your office. Keep garbage cans small so they’re regularly emptied. Wipe off phones and computer keyboards and regularly dust your computer.

Be activated. A dull office makes for a dull career. Your office should be bright (keeps lights on, open windows or blinds), should have life in it (small fish in aquarium, plants, pretty flowers), should have movement (small fan blowing or radio playing), gushes about you (pictures, clippings, certificates, diplomas, newspaper articles, letters of appreciations, pictures of you with celebrities or important people).

10 Ways to Make Your Office Make YOU Successful

1. Sit in the lucky corner. This is the corner diagnonal to the door and facing the door. This has the most energy and luck associated with it! Do your best to put your desk here!

2. Look at water. Put a picture of water in front of you to stimulate wealth, opportunities to grow your career, and advancement! Want more advancement and money? Add a fountain.

3. Keep open space in front of your desk. Keep your desk clear at the front and keep clear open space in front of your desk. Don’t stack files or papers directly in the center of your desk.

4. Have a solid wall at your back. This gives you support — especially from management.

5. Get yourself some recognition. Hang pictures of success, letters of commendation, awards, etc., on the south wall of your office. Hang them in red frames for extra recognition!

6. Get help from important people. A radio, fan, or 6-rod windchime are all perfect ways to get mentors and benefactors in the workplace. Put these enhancements in the Northwest corner of the office and you will have people come to your aid, help you in your career, and give you recognition!

7. Don’t sit near a restroom. Make sure you do not share a wall with a bathroom, sit under a bathroom on the floor above you, see a bathroom from your office, or hear a bathroom (commodes flushing). This will put YOUR career in the toilet!

8. Add pictures of ships. Ships represent good luck coming in and wealth arriving and are especially powerful career enhancers! Place pictures of ships in your office — especially by the door to indicate good luck sailing in. Make sure ships do not look like they are in rough seas.

9. Use the front door. Too many employees enter the building where they work through a rear door. This gives you “rear” treatment. Instead, see yourself as an important person in the company and always enter through the front door of the office. Likewise, enter the front door of your home as well and you will DOUBLE your career luck and opportunities!

10. Wear your career colors! Lucky colors are selected by personal feng shui especially if you are interviewing for a new job or attending an important business event or meeting! Kua number 1 people should wear blue or black colors, kua number 2, 5, or 8 people should wear beige, yellow, taupe, or tan, kua number 3 people should wear brown, kua number 4 people should wear green, and kua 6 and 7 people should wear white, pearl, or off-white, and kua number 9 people should wear red. Start Fresh with Feng Shui – Removing Blocks to Successful Living

Feng shui is all about energy: the flow of it, the lack of it, the harmonizing of it, and the cultivation of positive, beneficial energy. When your life is stagnant or bountiful, smooth or bumpy, you can bet there is some cause and that you are living the “effect.” That is the best news there is about feng shui, is that, yes, there is something that can be done about some of the dilemmas you may be facing.

And that’s what drew me to feng shui: there is hope and a remedy for many of life’s annoyances.So, how can you move ahead and get past some of the problems of the past? It will take effort, but if you truly want to get a head and have some beneficial change, you won’t mind because the payoff is more than worth the effort. The checklist below outlines the steps you should take to get energy moving for you in your home — and your life.

Do things symbolically. When you clean house before New Year’s Eve, for example, you are symbollically starting fresh and new for the new year. This is just one example of doing things in a symbolic way. Think of things you can do to create a symbolism in your life. I give boxes of oranges to my customers because these symbolize gold! Consider buying new artwork in your house that inspires and uplifts you and is symbolic of something you aspire to!

Start new. This change can be a new, positive tradition that you do for yourself at the start of each new year such as buying a new wallet or purse. This is my own personal tradition. I buy a new wallet, checkbook cover, and purse — all red! And, yes, red wallets REALLY DO work!

Let good energy take root. Plants are a wonderful New Year tradition. If possible, plant something outdoors, such as bulbs or a tree to get the New Year off to a healthy, vigorous and symbolic start. If that’s not possible, purchase a new, lush and healthy indoor plant for the New Year.

Pick a corner of the house to refresh and renew. Plan on doing some renovations to your home to keep the energy of the area fresh and vibrant. Plan some new curtains, wall color, etc., for this area — or do it in the yard — just make a plan to invigorate your home.

Choose one room to streamline and de-clutter. Resist trying to tackle the whole house. Get a friend or a family member and bring in a box and a trash can. Throw as many items in the box to donate to charity or in the trash can to throw away that you can. If you still feel motivated try another room in the house.

Diagram your house. With some graph paper in hand, set about diagraming your entire house. Next, draw nine equal squares over the house. Each square or sector corresponds to a direction (north, south, etc.). Draw the North-South line on the diagram to locate the north and south sectors. Then, check the front door to determine its facing direction (looking out of the house toward the street); it should be the same as the house.

If your house faces one way and the door faces another, remember to determine the facing direction by the most open area on your house (link takes you to the last issue on “facing direction”). This can be a large picture window, a wide veranda, or the area with the best view of a lake, a river, the ocean, or a major scene, such a view of the city.

Welcome opportunities to your house. The front of the house is where opportunities originate. If the front of your house needs help, then chances are you might be feeling stuck or without options in your life. For those of you in trailers or manufactured homes, be sure that steps leading up to your house are closed and that the risers are not open otherwise you will be losing valuable opportunities. Now, if your front door faces E, SE, or North, paint it BLACK. If it faces SW, South, or NE paint it RED. If your door faces west or NW, paint your door GOLD (ochre) or PURPLE with silver hardware. The door is your pathway to opportunity…make it a beautiful path!

Locate afflicted areas and handle them. You MUST know where the afflictions are in your home each year so that you do not create more problems for yourself and so you can be forearmed. Be sure to stand at the center of your home and determine where each of the afflictions are — I have given you compass readings for each. This is the best way to determine EXACTLY where they are. Good Luck Objects and Colors Bring Prosperity, Abundance,and Protection

Creating good feng shui that promotes wealth, happiness, and opportunities can extend way beyond your front door or the way you arrange your bedroom. Feng shui can be incorporated in the accessories in your home to the car and clothing colors you select. Once I began making feng shui my lifestyle, I noticed that it made a more of an impact.

Now, I “live feng shui.” This means I choose colors that are complimentary in feng shui and work to incorporate all the elements of fire, water, metal, wood, and earth in what I wear and surround myself with. That’s because when you compound and build vital, harmonious energy, or “chi,” you are imbued with this beneficial energy. When you are more thoughtful and intentional about your habits, your décor and your personal feng shui, you begin to attract and compound energy – which builds just like money – and it attracts money too!

Use these symbols to build your feng shui energy at work, at home, and in yourself for more opportunities, financial advantage, and happiness.

The regal phoenix
The mythical phoenix is a bird of opportunity. Displaying this majestic bird brings opportunities for business, socializing, and love. It is the perfect symbol when times are tough because of its “rising from the ashes” mythology. You can simulate the bird by placing a stone in front of the house that represents a small footstool. The stone should look appropriate in the landscape and should be about two feet wide. Indoors, display pictures of peacocks or other birds with bright plumage to stimulate opportunities.

Pair black and green colors
Green is the color of growth and the southeast wealth sector. Black is the color of water, and that is the color of wealth in feng shui. When you want to stimulate business or personal growth, wear black and green colors, such as a black suit with a green shirt. It’s a smart look that’s harmonious for advancing your business and financial opportunities.

Use symbols for personal protection
Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous people in the world who are envious and who do not want for others to succeed. Their negative thoughts can be very powerful and difficult to counteract. Many countries use the protective eye to symbolize staring back at any negative energies. That symbol is used to protect against anyone who aims their negative thoughts at you.

Older Asian women will sometimes wear the double fish to guard against their husband’s affections wandering to a younger woman. Select a protective amulet or symbol that is meaningful for you. Wear protective amulets if you are subjected to politicking or have to sit with your back to the Three Killings or if your front door, bedroom or office is located in the Three Killings direction, such as the east in 2009.

Wear feng shui jewelry
Auspicious jewelry with precious gems, gold and silver are all ways to enhance your personal prosperity energy. I love to wear a rhinestone circle necklace for enhancing wealth. Pearls are associated with the moon, intelligence, and good fortune. Wearing them is considered to bring great fortune to you and to promote feminine beauty.

The mighty horse brings recognition
Horses are symbols of fire, recognition, fame — and the spoils of victory. Horses activate the energy of the south sector and bring wonderful recognition energy. It will bring you to the attention of the people who can help you move ahead in your career. When the horse is especially beautiful and regally adorned it is called a “tribute horse.” This is associated with horses presented to victors laden with precious gems and other beautiful items by those who were conquered. The horse is especially prized for promoting upward movement and personal promotion.

The Wealth Buddha
The large smiling Buddha seen in Chinese restaurants is commonly thought of as the Buddha of Wealth and is there to bring good business and financial success to the establishment. Business people should place a Buddha on their desks or in their offices to help them bring abundance to the workplace. Look for fat, happy Buddhas with gold ingots, coins, and other wealth objects, like a big sack of money!

Peacock feathers protect
Worried about violence, break-ins or robbery? If the annual 7 star is at your front door, you need to be more cautious. Placing a vase of peacock feathers will help to protect your home. If you park in a questionable area of town, then placing peacock feathers in your car will not only protect you from break-ins but will also protect against car accidents.

Red jumpstarts everything
When you wear dark colors or decorate in neutral colors, the effect can be beautiful but often lifeless. Adding the color red to a black dress or a beige bedroom will add enough “wow” to go from stagnant to vibrant instantly. Red, when worn on the wrist (such as with the cinnabar bracelet above), makes you more productive, clear-headed, and able to make good decisions. That’s because the wrist and hand are associated with the northeast earth sector and it is enhanced by fire and the color red. Low energy? Wear red undies!

Purple is a potent color. In every society, purple holds a special place, and a special meaning. It is said that Leonardo da Vinci believed meditating in a lavender or purple-colored light was improved by a factor of 10. Purple is associated with wealth, nobility, stature, religion, piety, magic, and sexuality.

Purple is mixture of soothing, calm blue with boisterous, energetic red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic. Some 75 percent of small children choose purple over other colors.

It is said that purple was a favorite color of Cleopatra. It has continued to be a color associated with royalty, with high honor, such as the purpleheart awarded American soldiers wounded or killed in war. Obviously, purple is a very special color. That is also true in feng shui. In feng shui, there is one color that is suitable in any direction. That color is purple.

Purple is the color associated with any of the directions as a beneficial color. You might even say that purple is the “feng shui beige.” Sometimes purple is not the easiest color to live with. So, if you have strong feelings about purple it’s better not to use it. Or, if your space would look strange with purple, then it’s better to use a color that goes with your decor.

Purple is also a color that generates good chi. So, wherever you would like to add extra energy, consider adding purple. However, because it is a stimulating color, it’s better not to put purple in bathrooms and kitchens, where it can enhance the negative energies of these rooms.

1. Purple helps you gain MORE RECOGNITION.
Purple is an excellent color to add in the south sector of your house or living room or office. In particular, it is especially good if you are in a power position, such as principle or owner of a business. Purple is definitely a power color. Add it to a south wall for added prestige and to further your ambitions for fame.

2. Purple helps you gain CREATIVE, SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN.
Purple is an excellent enhancement to any child’s room. Painted on any wall or used in furnishings, purple is very enhancing to any child regardless of the child’s personal feng shui. Purple is also enhancing to the child’s imagination. It is also enhancing to any wall it is painted on regardless of direction.

Your child suffering from ill health? Purple is beneficial when painted on an east wall as it helps improve health. Want to inspire creativity in your child? Paint the west wall purple. Some of the best feng shui isn’t all about turtles and fountains, mountains and facing directions. It’s about fun. Good feng shui can change to great feng shui with the addition of fun, enjoyment, festivities and happy times. That’s because the vibrations of laughter and enjoyment permeate our surroundings and if you home is the location for happy gatherings full of festive people, then you’ve done a lot toward making your feng shui better – and that changes your outlook, your happiness, and your bottom line, too!

Most truly wealthy people have lots of fun and enjoyment in life – most likely because they can afford it. But, that’s not the only reason why. Every time we have pleasant and enjoyable times in our house, we build on happiness energy. This kind of energy creates excellent sheng chi that raises our energy level and that attracts prosperity and business and financial opportunities. Try these tips for increasing your “fun” shui.

Have fun at home.
Make your home party central. By inviting guests and enjoying pleasant conversation and good times, you do a lot to lift the energy of your home. Even simple steps like playing games with your family fill your home with laughter. Or, try making a family meal in the formal dining room on Saturday or Sunday nights a weekly treat. All of these things can raise your chi and the chi of your home.

Liven up yourself.
A friend of mine once joked that she had enough black clothes in her closet to outfit eight women for a funeral. Bring extra energy to yourself and lift your personal chi by wearing bright and vivid colors. The colors imbue us with their energy. On days I want to be extra productive and energetic, I wear brown slacks (big wood) with a red shirt (fire) because big wood makes a big fire! Money on your mind? Wear black pants and a green shirt. Want to get along with everyone and inspire happiness? Pair beige or gold pants with a red shirt.

Bring in new energy.
New objects for the home brings new energy to your home. A new object for yourself re-energizes you. Or, try doing something new. Explore a nearby city, go to a new restaurant, do something you’ve always wanted to do or try. New energy is so important. It keeps our homes and us revitalized and energetic. Keeping ourselves surrounded by new energy helps keep our energy level high and looking forward in an expectantly positive outlook – and that draws more love, money, and happiness to us.

Figure out what makes you happy.
If a bouncy new kitten makes you break out in a smile, why not go to your local shelter and adopt a new cat? It’s important that we make choices that make us happy. Sometimes the hard part is figuring out what that is that makes us happy. Make a list of ten things that make you happy – whether that’s hot chocolate in the morning or a cute figurine on your desk. If you see something you really love, and I mean really love, buy it. There is no better feng shui than being surrounded by things you really, truly love and enjoy.

Symbolize happiness.
Once you know what happiness looks like to you, find a symbol for it. Maybe that symbol is a word, a figurine (I just love lucky cats!), or something you have already. One important symbol for happiness in feng shui is Buddha. A fat, happy Buddha often carries a bag in one hand or over his shoulder or sits on a bag. This symbolizes his carrying your burdens and worries. For this reason, I keep one on my desk to cheer me with his chipper countenance.

Another symbol of happiness is the lucky cat. The darling cats bring happiness energy to the cash registers of many Asian businesses – and money. I have a small collection of them myself. Annual animals are also another harbinger of happiness. Each year, small figures of the animal of the year are made and sold in Asian gifts shops. Many of them are happy and smiling. Last year I bought a smiling rat and this year I have a happy ox! Find one that appeals to you and makes you happy.

Boost Your Career With Powerful Feng Shui

Enhancing careers with feng shui is a popular subject in feng shui. Second to generating wealth, energizing the career sector ranks high in interest among those interested in using feng shui to better their lives.It makes sense due to the amount of time we spend at our jobs. It also is understandable because to have a successful career enables us to make better decisions for ourselves and our families.

By this, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you simply make more money, because money doesn’t solve all the ills of career problems. Of course, it doesn’t hurt. However, there are plenty of people out there making good salaries but unhappy with their respective careers.

When you energize areas that you would like to improve, it’s possible to open up a range of possibilities. For instance, by energizing your career sector, your job may suddenly become better, or something new and better will be coming to you that you hadn’t expected at all, such as a business opportunity.

But this is the price of making changes — you get more changes in your life, and therefore, more choices! And, that’s what you usually want in your life: more opportunities and choices to create greater happiness for yourself and your family.

There are two critical areas to enhance if you want to improve your career: your house and your office. Below are ideas for both. However, these are not ALL the possible suggestions; only some of the most basic ones.

STEP ONE: Your Home

6 Key Steps

1. Look north. Make sure the north sector of your home is in good order. If your north sector is missing or if there is a toilet here, activate the north sector of your living room and office.

2. If your bedroom is in the north: This can be enhanced by decorating with blue or black, a picture of water (not overly large, however), and metal (preferably gold-colored) objects.

3. A north-facing home: Make the entrance to your home as attractive as possible to invite new opportunities. Make it neat and easy to come into by removing obstacles, blockages, dying plants, worn out welcome mats, etc.

By the way, DON’T buy welcome mats with your name on it you’ll be walking on your good name! Place an image of a turtle or fish here. Be sure to block any views that go straight through from the front of the house to the back or you’ll be missing opportunities (and losing money!).

4. Look south. Display peacock feathers in the south portion of the home and keep this area well-lit. The south represents recognition. A grouping of nine candles would be excellent here as well. Consider painting the south room in your house red, orange, or a shade of red.

5. Welcome career opportunities. Keep a light in the entrance to your home turned on. A chandelier with crystal prisms that cast the different colors about the entryway is especially good.

Or, hang a crystal below your light to cast colored prisms about the foyer. These are especially helpful if your stairs face or end close to the front door; good opportunities go right on out the door!

6. Add water to the front of your home. Consider putting in a water fountain (on the left side of the door as you look out of the house) inside the house or outside. (A water feature on the right side of the house invites cheating in the marriage.) If you put in a water feature outside your home, make sure the water appears to be flowing toward the house. This is one of the best ways to bring opportunities to your door.

Step Two: Your Office

8 Key Elements

1. Sit in a power position by facing (but not in direct line with) the door. Don’t sit with your back to the door ever. If your furnishings in your office or cubicle are built in, then turn your computer so that you can see someone coming from either your left or right side.

2. Tap your pa kua number. Face your personal best directions if at all possible, but never ignoring #1 above. Use as many of your personal best directions as possible!

3. Stop gossip. If gossip is a problem in your career, get a statue of a rooster and place it on your desk to look at anyone coming into the office. This will help curb some of the talk in the office.

4. Get support. This is extremely important for a good career and why you should have something solid behind you. If you have a window at your back, you will suffer from lack of support. Turn so that there is a wall behind you.

Also, make certain that there is not a bookshelf or open cabinets at your back. Place these where they are not in direct line with you or your desk. This also means making sure you don’t have any bookshelves shelves facing you. Move these if you do. Also be certain you don’t have a hallway, stairs, or other entry that is exactly opposite your desk.

5. Enhance your wealth corner. Place a plant in the SE corner of your office. Get rid of spindly, weak plants. Better to have a pretty silk plant than a real plant that is dying.

6. Be recognized. Trouble getting noticed? Place a lamp in the S corner of your office for more recognition. Also, place red objects, stones, or crystals in this location. The larger the stone, the better. Definitely go for heft and girth!

7. Activate your career sector. Place a tortoise in the north corner of your office to symbolize water and support. Or, place a big picture of water here. If you want to go all out, place an aquarium here with eight gold fish and one black gold fish.

8. Get help. It’s the “who you know principle” that you want to engage. So, make sure the NW corner is activated. You want mentors or people to help you, right? If so, place a rock or geode here, or place metal objects in this location. Stereos and electronics are also good placed in the NW to bring helpful people and mentors to you. Gold, silver, or white objects are good when placed here. Try hanging a 6-rod windchime with hollow rods in this sector.

6 Ways to AVOID Success

Success is often elusive and yet we wonder and study how people become successful. For some success is merely tied to a financial figure. For others, success is fame, a certain dress size or material possessions. Yet, for others, success represents a rounded and balanced life.

But regardless of what your definition of success may be, there are actual habits and skills that will keep you from being successful. Interestingly, while it’s helpful to see what successful people do, it’s also as helpful and perhaps more so to study what keeps someone unsuccessful.

1. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Everyone has fears. The problem is when those fears become paralyzing and keep you from acting. This is what you must examine. What’s holding you back? Sometimes fear of success is more powerful than failure…maybe you’re afraid you’re going to do great? Step out and do that thing that you’re afraid of. Many women I know are afraid of technology. If you have a business, you can’t afford to be a technophobe. Jump in – you can’t break the Internet!

2. Never acknowledge your accomplishments.

Do you wrap up every single day mentally listing everything that you didn’t do? This New Year’s Eve instead of making resolutions, toast your accomplishments and celebrate all that you DID do in the past year. Write out a list at New Year’s of all that you accomplished in the past twelve months. You’ll be surprised at how quickly it adds up — and you’ll feel pretty terrific, too!

3. Avoid getting advice.

If you have a “go it alone” attitude then you’re going to lag behind. Go and seek out advice. Coaching clients are often afraid of spending the money for advice. Instead of looking at the cost, look at what it’s worth. Seek out mentors and advisers who can help you move past problems, issues, concerns and business hurdles. Get help; you don’t get extra points for toughing it out.

4. Do it all yourself.

You don’t have to everything yourself. Really. You don’t. Build yourself a team. Get supporters and teammates to help you with everything from personal coaching, business advice, health or exercise personal training, housekeepers and errand runners. You aren’t an island and doing more doesn’t always add up to doing better.

5. Don’t take advice.

This is a good one. Make sure you blow off the critiques and helpful advice that you seek out or even pay for so you can stay right where you are. That’s a sure way of staying trapped. Instead, be open and willing to hear what’s being said and then put it into effect. Remember that famous Seinfeld episode where George, the perennial loser, experienced phenomenal success just by doing the opposite of what he would normally do? There’s a wisdom in that, you know.

6. Pay no attention to your surroundings.

Your environment either supports or suppresses you, and if you’re surrounded by broken, unattractive, cluttered or negative environs, it’s going to take a toll on your health, your life, your bank account and your career. Get “your house in order” and you will see your life follow suit.

Feng Shui Yourself for Success

Feng shui is often called the Chinese Art of Placement. But you can use feng shui in so many ways beyond how you arrange your home.

Feng shui is all about energy movement and includes the way things look, how they feel, and the energy they possess. There are so many
ways that you can apply feng shui that can impact your life. Let’s talk about a few of them….

Signature and handwriting. My mentor and feng shui master, Lillian Too, often recommended people make changes to their signatures to give them more influence. Some signatures have letters that curl backwards — this means lackluster growth and success. Some tilt left — this causes the same problem. Even this graphic (right) shows writing that tilts to the right and looks like it’s going forward. Look at your signature and make sure yours says “affluence” and that it tilts right and up — not left and backwards.

A client of mine had a tough time being promoted even though his income kept going up; he simply never got the nod. I told him his signature tilted backwards — as though he turned his back on others or looked backwards. In fact, all his writing has a tendency to lean left. He changed his signature and the money flowed into his life — and he leap-frogged at his job being promoted up two levels! One of my wealthy clients has the most gorgeous handwriting — and she always writes in purple. I often admire it and wonder about its effect on her life.

Email. This may sound strange but your email address conveys ideas about you to the people who read it. What we call ourselves can have an influence in the way we are treated. One email I received came from a person looking for love. The woman wanted a man in her life and was seeking a permanent partner, yet her email address was “Beethovens wife.”

I told her that her email said she was already married — to a dead composer. I suggested she change her email to something more generic like sally@abc.com, but she refused and gave every excuse in the book why it wasn’t possible to make this simple adjustment. I said as long as you’re already someone else’s wife, then you won’t find a mate. People also have a tendency to write about themselves and write their names in email all in lowercase letters. This diminishes you. Don’t do it.

Change. Are you willing to make some changes in order to get what you want? Many people talk about change and then fight it every step of the way. They also may not understand how “easy” it is for other people and be so hard for themselves. What they don’t see is that change is not easy for anyone, it’s just that those who make the effort understand the discomfort of change isn’t just discomfort — it’s growing pains.

Receive. Many people are uncomfortable with receiving. They’re more comfortable with giving the advice, making the effort, slugging it out themselves. You have people and circumstances that are willing to help you and come to your aid. And if you do — are you willing to receive it and take the advice? I have a business mentor who gives me tough love — and I pay handsomely for it. That makes me value the advice and I am open to receiving it — and then implementing it! Be smart enough to take advice and then implement it.

Beautify. Do you live with clutter? Is your house dirty? Maybe your desk had a paper bomb go off…. Affluent people don’t live with mess. They work at keeping their environments beautiful and supportive and energizing. You can do the same. Make an effort in your home and office to make it appealing and beautiful. You deserve a clean, beautiful, organized space — whether that’s in the bedroom or the office or the living room.

While you’re at it, beautify yourself. Get to a new stylist, or a make-up counter at a department store. Improve your image and your look. We all get into ruts, just have the good sense to get out of it and make some improvements. Changing yourself keeps your energy flowing and active!

There are situations and circumstances in every part of your life that say subtle things about you and influence your life. Open your eyes to your habits of speech, your writing, your email name, your resistance to change and openness to receive. This is part of applying feng shui to yourself and to your life, to keeping energy positive and moving and flowing for yourself. Sometimes the change to your environment isn’t as important as the changes your make to yourself.
