Feng shui has many mirrors. And by mirrors, that means a repetition of ideas and thoughts. For instance, the number three is a representation of the direction of east, and east is represented by wood. There are many mirrors just like these with respect to other feng shui elements.
Take for example the yin and yang symbol. Another name for it is the “tai chi” sign.
Regardless of what you call it, the symbol represents the ultimate male and female energies. This is also represented by directions. The ultimate female direction is southwest and the ultimate male is the northwest. This has also been depicted by the tiger and dragon, the dragon and phoenix, and the directions of north and south.
In the home, though, the directions of southwest and northwest are vitally important. There is another direction that is vital as well. This is the center.
These three corners make up the 3 critical directions in feng shui – or the trinity of the 3 Sacred Palaces.
The southwest and northwest represent the male and female in a home as well as the yin and yang energies in every house, and when they’re afflicted, the family has problems in some manner. The center sector encompasses the trinity of health, wealth, and happiness of relationships.
Also called the heart palace, the center palace reflects the health and well-being of all the home’s residents. Whatever happens in the center of the home influences the entire household. If it’s a staircase, kitchen or a bathroom, then those influences will preside.
It’s best when the center is used as a living area or dining area so that the health, wealth and happiness energy of the home is the most concentrated here. That’s because this is the sector where the family luck is most intense and it represents the heart.
Keep photographs of your family here and try to ensure you have heart-centered and family activities to foster greater family harmony and happiness – and good health, too. When you do, your family will be happy together.
Adding bright lights in this area and keeping them lit will help keep you and your family healthy, your income steady, and your life filled with happiness. If your bathroom is here, be sure to add a plant in the bathroom and decorate with bright red colors to offset the toilet’s energy and bolster the earth energy.
The southwest palace
This corner represents the yin or feminine energies of the household, and those energies are represented energies in a variety of ways. This can include the relationships in the household, the romance between married couples and partners, maternal and nurturing energy, opportunities for the woman in the house, and family luck as well.
It also represents the woman in the house, if there is a woman.
Another representation of the southwest energy is marriage energy. When the southwest has a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, or garage, the marriage energy is not always stable. The woman is subdued and less able to affect change and growth in her life.
If the occupant of the house is single, it can create limited marriage prospects or difficulty attracting a partner or maintaining a relationship.
If the homeowner is a male, it can hurt his chances of attracting a suitable partner. It can also affect women getting along in the household as it can create friction between mothers and daughters and mothers and wives.
A missing southwest corner can affect the happiness of the entire household, and can mean that romantic love is missing, that the woman of the house is frequently gone, and if there is a family, that the nurturing and loving motherly instincts of the mother are missing.
Strengthening the southwest corner of the house with a lamp with a red shade is one of the simplest yet most effective ways of helping resolve almost all of the issues with the southwest corner. The southwest is an earth corner, so enhancing it with the fire element of a lamp will help perk up this corner.
Be sure to activate the southwest corner of the living room and bedroom if the corner is missing or is afflicted by a bathroom, kitchen, laundry or garage. It’s especially important if this is a missing corner. And if the southwest is missing, be sure to hang a mirror where this sector would be to symbolically recreate the missing corner.
Activating the southwest corner ensures that the woman of the house is happy and contented, and that makes everyone the house happy.
The northwest palace is the sector of ultimate yang. That means this energy represents the male energy of the household, and if there is a man in the house, it represents him.
This portion of the home represents the ability to produce wealth and income through the efforts and advancement of the breadwinner of the household.
The northwest palace energies can also represent opportunity, the help of others who assist you in your life, and ability to advance in your life. If there isn’t a man in the home, this corner represents the male energies of the home.
If this corner is missing it can mean that the man, if there is one, is frequently gone from the home or is an uninvolved husband or father.
If there isn’t a man in the home, it can mean there is a problem attracting a male and can affect marriage prospects for a female. For a single man, it can mean that the home won’t attract a female because there is an imbalance of energies.
For the whole household, having a solid northwest corner is essential.
One of the major concerns with the northwest is the fire element. When there is fire in the form of a fireplace or a kitchen or stove, this can cause a sudden loss for the man such as loss of a job or loss of wealth through bankruptcy. It can also lead the sudden loss of a man, through divorce, or worse, through death by injury, accident or illness.
There are few hard and fast rules in feng shui, but not having any open flames in the northwest corner is essential.
Houses that have a stove or fireplace in the northwest corner may find that the man of the house has difficulties advancing, making activating your northwest corner of the living room and bedroom especially important.
Because this is a sector is a sector of big metal, the element that conducts energy, it is enhanced by earth. We all know the saying that behind every great man is a strong woman. It’s the woman’s earth energy that allows the metal energy to be both productive and conductive. Adding earth elements in the northwest corner is one of the most effective ways to enhance the metal energy of the northwest and promote the yang energies of the household.
The trinity of the 3 Sacred Palaces is one that all homeowners should look at and that you must make a point to bolster.
When you’re looking to buy a new house, be sure that the northwest, southwest and center are in good shape, and if the other corners have problems, then at least the man and woman in the house will be anchored and represented in the home’s energies.
Look to see if your 3 Sacred Palaces are in good shape and if not, correcting them is easy and can make a major difference in your life!
