Feng shui is a great tool for understanding what your home and office environment are saying about your business success, your family, your health and your relationship happiness.
Another fascinating aspect of feng shui is to see the correlation between your life and your body. We can do with feng shui because each corner of our home has a corresponding body part.
Even more interestingly, your body has a way of talking to you in feng shui terms just like your home does.
For instance, many times before we take a big step in our life – especially a step that requires our faith and courage – we become ill. Illness isn’t always a sign that something’s wrong. Instead, it’s often a sign of our growth. It’s your body’s way of pulling in and helping itself to marshal its full energy before taking on a big endeavor.
To put it another way, we often break down before we break through.
Start paying attention to when your body breaks down. It’s often before you make a big step – especially a step that is purely for yourself – like writing a novel, beginning an important course, getting married or moving.
There are other signs your body makes that relate to areas in your life where you might be trying to grow or where you need to take steps to see growth in your life.
The list below will help you decipher your body’s unique feng shui code and what it’s trying to tell you.
North corner of income, business and career opportunities.
The north corner is about your job and the way you make money or earn a living and its body part are the ears. The north corner is related to water and the emotional element of water is sadness and fear.
When you have worries about money or your future, it could create feelings of dread.
If you’re stressed over money, your job, or frequently feel sad or despondent, it could show up as bladder or kidney infections, difficulty urinating, or bladder leakage. It can also result in ear infections and drinking to excess.
Find ways to quell fear and invite more peace into your life as a way of helping your body cope and to feel less afraid.
Put your attention on the here and now and avoid futurizing or catastrophizing, which is what happens when your fear runs amok.
If money worries you, try your hand at a side hustle like selling your unwanted items online or taking a part time job doing something you love, like working at a gardening center or clothing store if you enjoy fashion. Maybe it’s time to ask for a promotion or cut out pricey coffees and lunches.
Give yourself a boost by wearing earrings every day and listening to beautiful music and turn off negative news that only fuels feelings of fear. Then start taking concrete steps so that you don’t stay trapped in your fears.
Remember, FEAR stands for false evidence appearing real, or face everything and recover.
South corner of recognition, fame and material success.
This relates to the heart and eyes, and the feelings of joy. Maybe you aren’t ‘seeing’ the opportunities and you’re blind to your chances to advance. Or, you might not be following your heart’s desire in your career, a relationship, or in life. When the heart is affected there can be anxiety, busy for busy sake, and a lack of happiness.
Problems here can result in a sense of boredom, eye problems, red eyes and eye irritations, heart palpitations or insomnia.
Do your best to look ahead and be visionary with your job or your business and life.
If your eyes are bothering you, you might not want to really look at what’s upsetting you.
Eyes relate to success and maybe you’re not seeing yourself as a success. What steps would it take to help you see yourself as a success? And what ways can you bring more joy into your life?
Look at what could you do to change how you see yourself – and how others see you, too. See a stylist or invest in a new wardrobe to improve your image so you can see yourself looking more successful.
East corner of family, health, growth and new beginnings.
This corner relates to the feet. In the feet, difficulties may manifest as problems with the toes, cracked heels, fungus, and problems walking.
If you have problems with your feet you have a problem with inertia. You may find it’s hard to get growing if it’s hard to get going. When your feet and lower legs are bothering you, it may feel like your life is standing still or going backwards.
This corner also relates to the liver, and if you’ve felt frustrated, angry, or depressed, this could be a sign that your liver is out of balance. An easy way to help your liver and that stuck feeling is with exercise, such as walking, and avoiding fatty foods and finish eating by 7 pm.
You may have to take a big step in your life, or create a new beginning and you are avoiding it.
Talk to your podiatrist about any foot problems you’re having and get them resolved to help you move ahead in life. Find ways to take a step forward, take action, and get moving in areas of your life where you aren’t making the progress you’d like to.
Southeast corner of wealth and assets.
This sector relates to the hips and thighs. This is an area that is a source of power and strength – much like having a large amount of money in the bank. If your hips are hurting from sciatica or bursitis, money may weigh on your mind, and you may suffer from anger causing spleen or gallbladder problems.
More to the point, the kind of money that you accumulate may bother you. You may worry that you don’t have enough saved, or what you have may not be enough for the future.
Pain in the hips can be related to being afraid of taking a risk and exercising your inner drive or personal will, and that includes a neglected sex life.
If you find you’re prone to fits of drama and emotions, low savings and investments, this can manifest in problems with the hips and upper thighs, spleen or gallbladder.
Work on taking risks, connecting, saving or earning more money, and taking big steps in life.
Talk to an acupuncturist or good massage therapist to help loosen up your hips and thighs so that you aren’t overly worried about money – and set aside some money whose only job is to grow.
Ensure you never touch this stash of cash. Having some money that’s accumulating will help to rebalance your energies, particularly if you have a problem with accumulating money.
Southwest corner of romance, love, relationships and the woman of the house.
When your stomach and body core bothers you, you could feel like a situation is too much to stomach. Maybe you don’t feel like you’re really loved and appreciated. Or, you may find that you ruminate and worry excessively and feel trapped in a situation.
Problems here can sometimes show up as chronic fatigue or other debilitating health worries that make you feel heavy, weighted, and lethargic. You may have a tendency to over-shop, let clutter build up, or have hidden clutter.
In the body this can also show up in your digestion, with stomach bloating, or abdominal pains. These feelings can result from not feeling loved or from feeling rejected by love.
Alternatively, a woman may be letting you down or you may feel pressured to live up to unrealistic expectations if you are a woman. Find someone or a group where you will be accepted and loved. Or, disassociate yourself from those relationships where you feel unsupported or that drain your energy. Setting up strong boundaries will help.
Find ways to strengthen your feelings of feeling loved and appreciated, learning to be more assertive and ask for what you need.
If worry and feeling trapped is a concern, work on goal-setting and outline action steps to help you get out of the worry trap.
West corner of creativity, children, projects, and endings.
This area is associated with the mouth and lungs. When you have tooth pains or mouth problems, you may find that you have a problem expressing yourself.
The teeth relate to stating your needs, wants, desires and your individual creative expression. When a mouth problem comes up, ask yourself if you need to express yourself or if you are expressing yourself fully. Maybe you’re not living up to your creative potential.
Having problems with the lungs may be due to stress or overwhelm, or there is some kind of grief in your life, and can result in COPD, asthma, or frequent breathing difficulties or infections.
Because the west corner relates to endings, perhaps there is an ending you’re putting off, such as a divorce, or there is an ending you haven’t gotten over. Develop your personal courage.
Work at expressing any grief and putting a voice to it, or speaking about what is bothering you with a therapist or good friend.
Northwest corner of helpful people, mentors, the patriarch, international travel and business.
This area is associated with the head. When there are migraines, sinus problems and any kind of problems with the head, even eczema or dandruff, maybe you’re not letting go of your thoughts and expressing yourself well.
Maybe you feel like you’re going it alone in life.
Look for a mentor who can advise you. Try to align yourself with others who can help you get ahead. Seek out influential people and ask for their assistance.
If you find you aren’t getting the help you need, maybe you aren’t asking for the help you need or you’re lacking in perspective.
Try to find time and space to clear your head and go to places like the mountains or beach where you can see far distances and release the tension that’s giving your headaches or skin problems.
Better still, when you need helpful people in your life, hire them.
Look for those who can help you such as a personal coach who can help guide and direct you, a personal trainer, a stylist, or gardener.
Northeast corner of good decisions, wisdom, and education.
This direction is associated with learning and wisdom, and relates to the hands and mind. When there is a problem with the hands, decisions may be hasty, rash or lack thoughtful reflection.
Your hands are the doing part of your body – and the brain’s extension outside of your body. This is why people with dementia or brain injury often have poor handwriting. Do you find yourself frequently hurting your hands or picking at cuticles, maybe even biting your nails?
Problems with the hands may show up in cloudy thinking and the inability to make decisions or the ability to make good decisions.
Arthritis in the hands may show up as well, interfering with thinking. Putting off an important decision can sometimes lead to breaking your wrist.
If your mind spins frequently and you are indecisive, try a new hobby such as sculpting, needlework, painting or anything that moves your hands and that creates something.
Give your hands extra care and attention to help your thought processes. How long has it been since you’ve had a manicure?
Being more conscientious about your hands will help your thoughts be clearer and more reflective. Have regular manicures, take good care of your hands, and dress them up with bracelets and rings, especially those that are red-colored to improve your thinking and decision-making.
